Xotoe

The opponent that never gets tired.

Tic-tac-toe, solo or with a friend

You know the tricks. So does Xotoe. Play six-game matches against a bot that keeps its focus long after you lose yours, or hand the phone to a friend.

Why Xotoe

Same nine squares.
A whole new game.

Timeless classic

The 3x3 game you grew up with, redrawn with bold colours, animated marks and a satisfying haptic tap on every move.

Dual dominance

Sides swap every game, so you have to win as X and as O. Six games, both seats, one champion.

Play your way

Go solo against Xotoe or pass the phone to a friend. No account, no internet, no ads.

Why Xotoe exists

Every tic-tac-toe rivalry ends the same way.

It's the game everyone played on the back of a notebook in class, and kept playing long after school. Then you learn the tricks: grab the centre, block the line, set up two threats at once.

Once both players know them, nearly every game is a draw. The match stops being about cleverness and starts being about stamina. Whoever loses focus first, loses.

So we built an opponent with unlimited stamina.

Xotoe knows every trick, and it never gets tired.

How it works

Three taps to your first match.

  1. 1

    Pick a mode

Go Against Xotoe for a solo challenge, or Against a friend on the same phone.

  2. 2

    Pick your game face

Choose one of eight avatars and a nickname of up to 8 characters. Just not “Xotoe”, that one's taken.

  3. 3

    Win the six-game match

You and your opponent swap X and O every game, and X always opens. Whoever takes the most of six games wins the match.

Strategy

How to win at tic-tac-toe

  1. X has taken the centre; the four corners are the next-best openings Tip 1

Open in the centre or a corner

The centre square sits on four winning lines, more than any other. A corner is the next-best first move.

  2. X has two in the top row; O must block the top-right square Tip 2

Always block two in a row

Before planning your own line, check your opponent's. If they have two in a row, block it now.

  3. X plays the bottom-left corner to threaten both the left column and the bottom row at once Tip 3

    Build a fork

Set up two winning threats in one move. Your opponent can only block one, so the other wins.

  4. A full board with no three in a row: the game is a draw Tip 4

Play for the draw, win the swap

When you can't win a game, don't lose it. Matches swap sides every round, so a draw now sets up your win next game.

Xotoe knows all of these too. That's the point.

Inside the app

The same nine squares, in your pocket.

Bold marks, a haptic tap on every move, and a scoreboard that runs across all six games.

And every match ends in one of three verdicts.

  • Win Victory dance time!
  • Draw Unbeatable stalemate!
  • Loss Hard luck! A setback, not a defeat.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What is Xotoe?

Xotoe is a free tic-tac-toe game for your phone. You play six-game matches against Xotoe, a bot that never gets tired, or against a friend on the same device.

Is Xotoe free?

Yes. Xotoe is completely free, with no ads, no in-app purchases and no account to create.

Does Xotoe work offline?

Yes. Xotoe doesn't need an internet connection, so you can play anywhere: on a train, on a flight or in a classroom.

How does a match work?

A match is six games, and players swap X and O after every game. X always moves first. Each win scores a point, and whoever has more points after game six wins the match; equal points is a stalemate.

Can you beat Xotoe?

Yes, but it gets harder as the match goes on. Early games leave room for mistakes, and by the second half Xotoe plays every move carefully, so bank your wins early.

Is tic-tac-toe always a draw?

With perfect play from both sides, yes, every game of tic-tac-toe ends in a draw. That's why Xotoe plays six-game matches with alternating sides: one slip in focus decides the winner.

Can I play with a friend?

Yes. Choose “Against a friend” for pass-and-play on one phone. Each player picks their own avatar and a nickname of up to eight characters.

Where can I get Xotoe?

On Google Play. The iOS app is coming to the App Store soon.

Is Xotoe on iPhone?

Not yet. The iOS app is coming to the App Store soon; Android comes first, on Google Play.

Does Xotoe collect my data?

No. Xotoe has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and your nicknames never leave your phone. Read the privacy policy.
